I throw my bag onto the bed and collapse into my computer chair, plugging in my phone and relaxed as I reflected on the evening. I manage to think about how incredible Connor was tonight and about how I wish Mel was here to talk to me about it. The Melting Spot was amazing, Connor was charming, and all my worry about my first official date was for nothing. He didn’t even pressure me for a relationship. Actually, he didn’t pressure me into anything at all. We got back from the movie after two, and since I had an early class and little sleep the night before, he understood, dropping me off in front of the building. He left the car on and walked me to the door, kissed me goodnight and then told me he’d call tomorrow morning.

Everything was perfect. Comfortable. Easy. Just like it always is when it’s just the two of us. He told me about his family, where he grew up, and his dreams. For years, he wanted to be the next Adam Levine. I told him I couldn’t sing to save my life and that I missed my own family, but that they were living out their dreams. I told him about Maxon, my little brother, and my sister, Emmalyn. I didn’t tell him everything about her since my sister’s life is super complicated. I guess winning the lottery and falling in love with a Chase does that to a girl. The only family I have in the area is my sister’s boyfriend, Adrian, and his family. He asked how I spent my holidays and birthdays, so I lied and told him I spent them alone when I usually spend them with Robins.

Connor invited me to go home with him for Thanksgiving and Christmas to meet his mom and three sisters. He’s the oldest of four, and his little sisters are his world. He spoke about them with such adoration you’d think they were his own. Emery, who is six, forces him to play Pretty-Pretty Princess. Evie, who is nine going on fifteen, puts makeup on him and pretends to be a Beauty Guru. And Ellie, the eldest at fifteen, is an amazing athlete. His mom works a lot, which means he’s the one that mainly raised them. He never missed a game or complained about all the girly things they made him do because he wanted them to know that not all guys are assholes. The girls all had different fathers, or as he called them “my mother’s three failed attempts at restarting her life” after his father died in a motorcycle accident when he was at the tender age of three.

Hearing him speak about his family with admiration touched my heart. The more he shared about the crazy things his sisters made him do, or how much he missed home, the more I felt connected to him. We talked and talked, and I got to know Connor Adams, not Connor the Westbrook Freshman. I loved our first official date, away from the campus.
